Looking back at your preliminary task (the college magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

I learnt different skills after developing my college magazine into my music magazine. The first step I improved and learnt from was the text and layout for example the text of the title, price and image. Plus editing my photography in my music magazine, I based my magazine photos on other special edition magazines for instance MIA’s NME front cover where there is obvious challenging the establishment of most other magazines by just looking at the picture. This meant I could make sure that I got across individual style. My final cover and products I improved how to use photo shop a lot. I managed to use better effects and layouts using adjustment tool which had contrast and brightness on to improve my photographs. I used certain colours like red, black and white to show also it’s for the individual style. I tried to make the magazine looking professional and kept the theme of black and white pictures, text sizes (font) and colours in all three pages. I tried to get it similar to the NME special edition magazine as close as possible but also looked at other magazines such as ‘Q’ and ‘Spin’ to develop more understanding of my final product.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

The main technology program I have used is photo shop to develop my three pages (Front cover, content page and double page spread) correcting the size of the page for instance the double page spread has to be landscape and different to the front and content page. The photographs I took had a white background so it was easier to use the lasso and polygonal lasso tool to cut just the models body out to lay on the page with a clear background to write text. Plus using the ruler lines to line up each block of text makes the layout neater and perfectly in line with the images and headlines. The colours worked well using red for the questions, title, quotes and headlines which are the key written elements in the magazine. The black was used for most of the text on the double spread interview with the band. All the photographs I converted into black and white to give it a different aspect for the magazine, plus it worked well with the red. I used Flickr once for my preliminary task analysing a college lifestyle magazine front cover then uploading it to blogger where my entire appendix main task planning work is at and all my other projects for my music magazine. Plus the internet to gain research on other music magazine website for instance NME.com on what they have in there magazine.

How did you attract/address your audience?

I aimed to design my magazine as the target audience would speak in the language, to attract the styles and contents of the genre of music they like plus the content and be associated with it. What latest bands are back and what exclusive story there is every week of the music and style they have in there day to day lifestyle. The title ‘OneView’ attract the audience perfect because it is your view on; OneView showing only your opinion and that is all the magazine cares about with OneView quiz’s and how well do you know OneView on the content page. The unique selling point of the magazine and the subjective gaze is the front cover showing it’s a special edition and only has one exclusive story which will be heard about all week which is the breakup of ‘The Anglicans’. The direct address to the target audience is shown with certain size of the text on all three of the pages with pull-lines on the double page spread with how the band broke up. The style of magazine isn’t like a pop magazine and does not associate loud and bright colours. The front cover of ‘OneView’ is not hectic or busy and is laid out stylishly and spread out so you can read each bit clearly. Other magazines similar to mine show the masthead (magazine name) at the top clearly showing what it’s called and the genre of music it is. The main image is a close-up of a star connoting that is the focal point of the front cover and the same image is relating to an exclusive story inside. There are a few cover lines showing what is inside, with the band/star in red text and in black text what they’re doing for example Mumford and sons touring in red and underneath in black saying there touring in USA.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

My target audience for ‘OneView’ (my music magazine title) is for the age range of 16 to 30 year olds. My ‘OneView’ reader profile shows my typical and specific reader of my magazine showing what fashion they like (adidas originals and brogues), sport, what latest technology they use, alcohol, television programmes they watch e.g. Skins. Basically what their lifestyle is in the magazine. My Music Magazine 'OneView'; 'don’t look at the future, look now’. This is the slogan for my magazine, saying spend what you want now and don't look to the future until it comes. My target audience go to gigs, festivals, love there fashion, style, individual aspect and the perfect teen life. My mood board shows colour and style that my target audience (16-30) would like plus what TV programmes, music, clothes and drink they would have or like. Reader Profile expectations of 'OneView'; the weekly reader spends at least £500 on clothes per year (Adidas, vans, brogues, denim and chinos). It's worth paying for extra quality goods, 70% of readers agree hopefully would agree with that. 95% estimate uses the internet (online shopping, gig tickets). The specific reader goes out on average once a week i.e. Friday or Saturday nights out or down the pub on a week day (jager bombs, cider). 75% of the readers are males and 25% females. On average 76% can drive. 96% of readers watch 3 hours’ worth of TV daily. 9/10 owns an mp3 or iPod. All of these are predictions and expectations for the future.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?




It would be my great for a mainstream publisher like IPC or Bauer to pick up my music magazine product because they have the greatest ideas when it comes to distribution to the major outlet companies such as WH Smiths. I know that most magazines do not get such distribution straight away and don’t last very long but similar magazines to mine such as NME which has been established for over 60 years, Spin and Q with IPC Media produces over 85 iconic media brands. If I was with a mainstream publisher I could run at a lost till I build up a fan base. But if it doesn’t create a huge fan base then the publisher would want some editorial say in the magazine. This then might cause different ideas and say in the long run of the magazine.The men's portfolio (IPC Inspire) comprises a wealth of leisure brands including lifestyle brands like Nuts, Mouse breaker and NME. This is where I hope my music magazine (OneView) develops into, a similar effect what NME has done with IPC a huge mainstream publisher.
